Report from Finance Department of the Archdiocese of Santa Fe -

  1. Santa Nino Regional Catholic School was built in 2006 and financed with two bond issues through Santa Fe County and are educational facility revenue bonds. One bond issue, Series A, is tax exempt and was in the amount of $7.4 million and the other bond issue (taxable), series B, was in the amount of $2.965 million. The original intent was to service the annual debt payments through lease income to be generated from developing the Cathedral parking lot and old school area. With the downturn of the economy, this effort has been delayed.
  2. The Archdiocese and Santa Fe and Pecos pastors determined that it was best to put together a funding package to pay off the B bonds. Paying off the B bonds lessened the annual debt service. The bonds were paid off in August, 2009. Part of the funding package included $860,000 from the Santa Fe and Pecos parishes. Our parish commitment was $125,781.02. Our parish paid this commitment in June, 2009 from parish savings. The Archdiocese of Santa Fe contributed over $600,000 towards the funding package.
  3. The intent is to continue working toward the development of the Cathedral parking lot and St. Francis school building at the appropriate time to generate income for the debt serviced on the A bonds. Until that development takes place, any rents from the St. Francis Cathedral School, former St. Francis parish office building and Cathedral Basilica parking lot income will be used to help fund the debt service. The parking lot income has been used for this purpose since July, 2009. The St. Francis Cathedral School will begin to generate rent income beginning in May, 2010 and the former Parish Office is currently being marketed but is not currently generating income.

Important Letter from Archbishop Sheehan - My Brothers and Sisters in Christ.

When parents bring their children to be baptized, they must first promise to bring them up in the practice of our Catholic faith, that is, to follow the law of Christ and the teachings of the Catholic Church. There is no greater gift that a parent can give than this. One of the most excellent ways for a parent to do this is by enrolling their children in a Catholic School. Catholic Schools have an excellent track record of strengthening the Catholic faith of students and providing great education and good discipline. Santa Fe is blessed to have Santo Nino Regional Catholic School sponsored and supported by eight parishes. It has state of the art building and an award-winning course of studies, including religious. I encourage parents to enroll their kids (grandparents to enroll their grandchildren) for the upcoming school year, while space and tuition assistance are still available. In your children's future, they will little remember what sports they may have excelled in, or what social activities they had in school but they should remember the solid education and moral values they received in their education. There is no better place to make sure this happens than in your local Catholic School. Enroll now. Sincerely - Michael J. Sheehan.

Proper Dress - Letters were sent to all pastors of the Archdiocese concerning appropriate dressing for the celebration of the Liturgy on Sundays. People become careless in the way they dress for church, showing disregard for others who attend Mass as well as for the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. The message is for both men and women. At times clothing is very revealing, some times sloppy, torn and dirty. I encourage everyone to take pride in the way they dress when they come to church. Remember that you come to the house of God. Respect yourself and others in the way you dress when you attend Mass on Sundays and during the week.

New Parishioner Registration - Are you registered in your parish? While attending mass is a mandate for all Catholics, it is not the same as belonging to a parish. When we attend mass at different churches there is no commitment, nobody knows us, there are no expectations. Registering is choosing a family to belong to. It involves commitment. To register or change information please fill out the form on the front of the Bulletin or click on the New Parishioner/Change Form.   After completing the form you can drop it in the collection basket, mail or bring it to the parish office.
