Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers Needed - Ministers of the Eucharist to take communion to patients at St. Vincent's Hospital. Please call Caroline Townsley at 669-2210 or 820-2331 to volunteer.

The Gabriel Project - As Mary visited Elizabeth who was pregnant with St. John the Baptist; our Gabriel Project "Angels" mentor pregnant women in need; offering them support, hope, love, friendship and Christ. If you are in need of help or wish to train as a volunteer mentor, please contact Barbara Rivera at 670-1265.

Penitentiary of New Mexico - is in need of Catholic volunteers!! Are you being called to be a volunteer minister to the incarcerated? The "Pen" located a few miles south of Santa Fe, houses 900 male inmates, many in "maximum security - segregation", where they are "locked-up" one person to a cell for up to 23 hours a day. About 45 percent are Roman Catholic, but the number of Catholic volunteers are small. These men are members of our families and our communities "doing time" for their crimes. Yet, many hunger for Roman Catholic volunteers to visit them, to encourage them, or at least to know that someone cares about them. Prison Ministry is mostly a ministry of "presence" that is just visiting them. Don't be deceived by TV and movies which portray mostly the violence of prison life, that exists on occasion -- but not as depicted in the entertainment media. Training is provided to all volunteers and scheduling is based on the volunteer's time availability. For more information, please contact Chaplain Andy Dimas or Chaplain Andy Carrillo at the "Pen" at 827-8332.

Santa Fe Birthright - believes it is the right of every baby to be born and the right of every pregnant woman to give birth. We are having trouble fulfilling our mission of helping pregnant women because our current staffing level only allows us to be open a limited number of ours each week. Ideally, we should be open five days a week, during the times when women are likely to come. The only way that will happen is if we get more volunteers willing to devote several hours per week to staff the office. If we do not get enough volunteers, the Santa Fe Birthright will have to close. Please call 983-3255 to offer your help. Thank you!!

Santo Nino Regional Catholic School - is seeking volunteers. Do you enjoy working with children? Interested in making a difference in the life of a child? The Santo Nino Resource room wants you! St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store - Jesus gave us an amazing and powerful gift when his Father sent Him to us, Compassion. There are people in this world, this country and even this city that have come up against obstacles in their lives that they cannot overcome alone. Your Santa Fe Diocese, St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store helps ordinary people, like you and me, everyday with financial, material and spiritual assistance. Our Thrift Store uses the money it makes selling gently used items to help our destitute brothers and sisters to overcome the obstacles in their lives. For such an amazing mission, our store and yard are in pitiful condition. While it was divine inspiration that started this organization, it is average people, like you and me that help it to keep its ministry alive. If you can volunteer one hour a day, a week, a month or even a year, we need you. It is our love of people and especially as Christians, to take action in this community which we all belong. If you can sort donations, clean or dust, answer telephones, landscape, repair or even stop in to shop, we need you. Our store hours are Monday - Friday from 10:00am to 4:30pm and located at 1088 Early Street. Call the store at 505-989-8328 to volunteer today. We would be happy for any help you can provide us in our diocese mission. I leave you with the words of one we all Know, "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me".
